Institutional Context

Disability Network Capital Area (DNCA) is Mid-Michigan’s largest disability advocacy organization and a designated Center for Independent Living under the federal Rehabilitation Act. The organization operates with an annual budget of approximately $1.5 million and provides independent living services, systems advocacy, and accessibility support across the Greater Lansing region.

Role & Governance Mandate

As a Board Member, Brown provided governance and fiduciary oversight supporting financial sustainability, mission alignment, and compliance with federal and state funding requirements.

Key Decisions & Outcomes

Independent Living Services

Provided governance oversight for programs delivering 313 individualized Independent Living and Work Plans supporting transportation access, employment readiness, housing stability, and self-advocacy.

Community Outreach & Advocacy

Helped oversee organizational performance reporting more than 24,500 hours of community outreach and technical assistance and over 9,000 hours of information and referral services.
